Sungrow Powers One of the Americas' Largest Solar Projects in Brazil

902 MWp Solar Project

Sao Paulo, Brazil, October 29, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverter and energy storage systems, recently announced its involvement in the Vista Alegre project by supplying its advanced 1+X Modular Inverter solutions to one of the largest PV installations in the Americas—a 902 MWp solar plant situated in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This significant project underscores Sungrow’s expanding presence in the Brazilian energy market.

The Vista Alegre plant, with a capacity of 902 MWp (778 MWac), operates under a 21-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and is scheduled for grid connection in 2025. Upon completion, it will produce approximately 2 TWh of electricity annually, supplying clean, sustainable energy to about one million Brazilian households and potentially offsetting around 154,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

At the heart of the project is Sungrow’s innovative 1+X Modular Inverter, which blends central and string inverter functionalities. This modular solution allows configurations starting at 1.1 MW and expanding up to 8.8 MW by combining multiple units, providing flexible design options and simplifying on-site operation and maintenance. Each module features an independent MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking), maximizing the plant’s power generation efficiency.

For this landmark project, Sungrow is providing a comprehensive solution that includes inverters, power transformers, medium voltage switchgears, and auxiliary systems, all integrated within a 40-ft container. Sungrow’s supply package includes 75 units of 8.8 MW inverters and 18 units of 6.6 MW inverters, as well as comprehensive cold and hot commissioning services and training in Operation and Maintenance (O&M).

Ada Li, Vice President of Sungrow Americas, commented: “This is one of the largest solar projects in the Americas, located in Brazil—a country with immense potential for solar power. It brings energy security and carbon reduction at a critical time in the global energy transition. Sungrow remains dedicated to clean energy for all, and we look forward to advancing this milestone project.”
