CORNEX has successfully rolled out the first batch of its next-generation 688Ah energy storage (ES) battery cells, developed in collaboration with CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive. This milestone highlights the deep expertise of both companies in energy storage and marks a significant step forward in advancing the industry into the "double-six" era—where individual battery cells exceed 600Ah and energy storage systems surpass 6MWh.

Designed with same-side tabs and a convex plate structure, the battery maximizes space utilization, allowing for higher energy output in a compact footprint. It incorporates high-density LFP materials and an optimized stacking process, achieving:

  • Gravimetric energy density: ~200Wh/kg
  • Volumetric energy density: >430Wh/L (8% increase over the previous generation)

2. Industry-Leading Safety Standards

Safety remains paramount with the 688Ah ES battery cell, which integrates:

  • Highly infiltrative electrolytes & double-sided ceramic separators to minimize side reactions and enhance thermal stability.
  • Over 50 CCDs & 3,000+ monitoring points on fully automated, digitalized, and intelligent production lines.
  • Rigorous safety tests, including needle penetration and thermal runaway resistance, exceeding national safety standards.

3. Unmatched Economic Returns

With a 2.2 kWh capacity per cell, a 10,000-cycle lifespan, and an energy conversion efficiency of 95%, this battery is ideal for industrial, commercial, and large-scale energy storage applications. A 20-foot container system equipped with these cells achieves:

  • 6.9MWh system capacity (up from 5MWh)
  • 20% reduction in floor space for the same-scale system
  • Lower total cost of ownership & higher ROI for power plant operators
