Tashkent, Uzbekistan, January 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ – Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverters and energy storage systems (ESS), in collaboration with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC), is proud to announce the successful commissioning of the Lochin 150MW/300MWh energy storage project in Uzbekistan’s Andijan Region. Equipped with Sungrow’s advanced liquid-cooled ESS PowerTitan 2.0, this facility is Uzbekistan’s first energy storage project and the largest of its kind in Central Asia. The project represents a major milestone in the region’s clean energy transition, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
Uzbekistan is accelerating its renewable energy development. In early 2024, the government raised its renewable energy target from 25% to 40% of the electricity mix by 2030. Additionally, the country is moving toward a more market-driven electricity sector, supported by new legislation enacted in July 2024. Energy storage projects like the Lochin BESS play a crucial role in enhancing supply reliability and mitigating the intermittency of renewables.
As a key component of the national energy strategy, the Lochin 300MWh BESS will supply 2,190GWh of firm capacity and flexible power annually, reinforcing the local grid's resilience. Sungrow’s PowerTitan BESS, equipped with grid-forming technology, ensures stable voltage and frequency by providing voltage regulation, frequency response, and oscillation damping services—a critical solution for Uzbekistan’s evolving energy landscape.
The PowerTitan 2.0 is an innovative integration of Sungrow’s expertise in power electronics, electrochemistry, and grid support technologies. Its all-in-one AC-DC block design with pre-assembled battery modules and PCS simplifies installation, reducing grid connection time by 50%.
Key highlights of PowerTitan 2.0 include:
Central Asia has immense potential to contribute to the global clean energy transition. Sungrow has already established a strong presence in the region, having supplied one of Kazakhstan's largest solar power plants. With a future-ready product portfolio and dedicated professional services, Sungrow is committed to supporting Central Asia’s renewable energy ambitions and fostering deeper community engagement.
