BYD Energy Storage, a global leader in the renewable energy industry, has connected the 2.6GWh Bisha Battery Energy Storage Project to Saudi Arabia's grid. This project is the largest single-phase grid-connected energy storage initiative globally to date. Saudi Arabia aims to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and establish itself as a world-leading green energy hub.

For this project, BYD Energy Storage supplied all energy storage equipment below 33kV, including 488 sets of 5.365MWh MC Cube ESS. With its safe, efficient, and reliable energy storage products and technical services, BYD Energy Storage has supported this project in becoming a benchmark energy storage initiative in the Middle East, facilitating Saudi Arabia's energy transition and opening a new chapter in China-Saudi Arabia new energy cooperation.

Technological Leadership

Located in the Asir Province of Saudi Arabia, the Bisha Battery Energy Storage Project can provide the grid with 4 hours of stable power supply. The MC Cube ESS adopts BYD Energy Storage's globally pioneering CTS (Cell to System) super-integration technology and is equipped with its Blade Battery for energy storage, with a record-breaking Vcts (Volume Ratio of Cell to System) indicator of over 33%. The ultra-thin battery design allows for three-dimensional arrangement within the space, akin to the perfect nesting of Tetris blocks. Combined with innovative system structural design, it significantly reduces the number of components used, enhancing space utilization and energy density, and continues to make leading breakthroughs in energy storage system integration.

 

MC Cube ESS

The Battery Management System (BMS) of the MC Cube ESS can monitor battery status in real-time, ensuring optimal battery performance. Advanced safety measures prevent risks such as overcharging, over-discharging, and thermal runaway, ensuring system safety and stability.

BYD Energy Storage's advanced intelligent management system can store energy during periods of low demand and release it during peak hours, ensuring grid stability. The system also offers high flexibility and scalability, allowing adjustments based on the grid's actual needs to adapt to the evolving energy landscape, providing robust support for Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals.

Recently, BYD Energy Storage has once again actively responded to Saudi Arabia's national strategy, achieving a historic collaboration with Saudi Electricity Company by signing a contract for the world's largest grid-side energy storage project, with a capacity of 12.5GWh. Combined with the grid-connected 2.6GWh Bisha Battery Energy Storage Project, the total collaboration between the two parties now stands at 15.1GWh.
